Sadamasa Motonaga 元永 定正

戦後日本の前衛美術を代表する芸術家、(1922-2011)。
1955年に吉原治良の誘いにより前衛美術グループ「具体美術協会」に参加。ビニールに着色した水を入れて樹の枝から吊るす《作品(水)》や煙を用いた舞台上のパフォーマンス作品などを発表。1958頃より日本画の「たらし込み」の手法に着想を得て、偶然性を活かした絵画作品によって注目され、欧米のアンフォルメル運動と連動して国際的な活動を展開していった。

He participated in the avant-garde art group “ Group” in 1955 by the invitation of Jiro Yoshihara. He exhibited “Works (Water)”, featuring plastic bags filled with colored water hanging from tree branches. He also made presentations and showed performance work on stage with smoke. Beginning around 1958, inspired by the technique of “Tarashikomi” of Japanese painting, he painted works that took advantage of contingency which attracted attention. It led to the expansion of his international activities in conjunction with the Informel Movement in the West.
